A good method of communicating risk can help save lives and money. A good example would be the campaign against passive smoking. In the 1990s smoking was heavily promoted and people smoked indoors in homes and public places. This was a risk to public health. Government cannot ban smoking because a lot of tax was collected from cigarette sales. So, it ran a massive awareness campaign to reduce passive smoking for a long period of time. This helped people to understand the risks of passive smoking which led to a significant reduction in passive smoking.
